Biography
I am a LCSW, and I obtained a Bachelor’s Degree of Integrated Studies in Communications, Spanish, and Psychology from Weber State University and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Utah, graduating summa cum laude. I was nominated most outstanding student and am a member of The National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi by election of the Chapter at The University of Utah. I love writing and have written Rocky Mountain Peace – a book, relating my journey, and Gluten Freedom – A Journey Through Celiac Dis-ease. I enjoy writing poetry, and as well I have written and illustrated a children's book, Di the Dragonfly. I write songs and sang for several years with the Utah Symphony Chorus as a high soprano. I represented the state of Texas as Mrs. Greater Houston International and Mrs. Greater Houston USA. As well, I was first runner-up to Mrs. Vermont. I have numerous interests including acting and I enjoyed performing in my first feature-length film role in “Chasing Home.” I have written, produced, and been featured in several iReports on CNN.com and HLN.com. I created an iReport for CNN and entered it in the Addiction iReport contest for the Jane Velez-Mitchell show Issues. It was chosen amongst thousands as a winner and aired on national television. My iReport “The Riverman” was featured on the front page of CNN.com and CNN Mobile. I have competed in numerous 5k and 10k races, I love trail running, and I have run seven marathons. I motivate people to turn stumbling blocks into stepping-stones by using the analogy of a marathon to inspire them to keep going no matter what life throws in their path. I enjoy aiding clients to drop their stories, converting their seeming tragedies into their very strengths. I have worked in sales, mental health therapy, addiction treatment centers, in-patient psychiatric care, medical social work, crisis work, and hospice, as well as business, personal, and life coaching. I have counseled and coached clients dealing with anxiety, depression, PTSD, grief, codependency, addiction, physical health problems, familial problems, and more. I believe that being fully present with clients and truly hearing where they are coming from is essential. I completed Dr. Eric Pearl’s Reconnective Healing Course. I was additionally trained by Dolores Cannon and am a certified Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique practitioner. I completed an extensive training in The Work of Byron Katie and as well completed Landmark Education’s ILP Public Speaking Program. I became interested in Kambô and after studying with a Shaman for a year, I enjoy serving Kambô to clients enabling them to heal at a deeper level emotionally, physically and spiritually. I am a Qi Gong practitioner and I completed Master Chunyi Lin’s Spring Forest Qi Gong Course for Health. I studied with Colin Tipping on Radical Forgiveness and I am trained and certified in the ancient Hawaiian healing modality, Ho’oponopono. I am in Dr. Gabor Maté’s year-long training in Compassionate Inquiry. I am studying the martial art, Wudang, under the tutelage of Zi Xioa and Elizabeth Seraphine. As well, I am currently in Dr. Richard Schwartz’s Internal Family Systems Training. Additionally, I completed Martha Beck’s Wayfinder Coaching Course and I am one of Martha's certified coaches. I also love photography, cooking, public speaking, and yoga.
